RYA First Aid Course is designed for both leisure and commercial boaters.

  • Each Student receives an RYA First Aid Manual & Certificate, a Training Pack which includes First Aid  Training Kit, and hygiene kit, various of Handouts via PDF that expand on the Manual or give additional information.

This one-day course is specially designed to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills in first aid for those who venture out on the water, whether it be on inland waters or up to 60 miles offshore.

The course syllabus is meticulously crafted in line with the recommendations of the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) and the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency), ensuring that you receive comprehensive and up-to-date training.

Upon successful completion of the RYA First Aid Training Course, you will be presented with a certificate that is valid for three years. This certification fulfils the requirements set forth by the MCA Code of Practice for skippers of small commercial vessels up to category 2, boatmasters, and senior offshore racers subject to ISAF (International Sailing Federation) regulations on first aid training (OSR 4.08.4).

Additionally, this course is approved for all RYA practical instructors.

 

RYA First Aid Course – Objectives

The objectives of this course are to enable you to perform CPR following current protocols, understand the importance of the recovery position and its modifications for confined spaces, apply direct pressure to control bleeding, recognize and treat shock (both internal and external bleeding), and understand the treatment for cold shock and hypothermia.

You will also learn to identify signs of a reduced level of response, particularly in cases of serious head injuries, choose appropriate first aid equipment for your boat, seek medical advice or assistance via radio, and prepare for the evacuation of a casualty by helicopter.

Moreover, the course will cover general treatment procedures for various conditions such as breathing difficulties, chest pain, seasickness, diabetic emergencies, anaphylaxis, hyperthermia, fractures, seizures, and burns.

For skippers of MCA Coded Vessels, you will gain an understanding of the content and use of a Category C first aid kit, including the pocket mask.

The cost of the course includes the RYA First Aid Manual, convenient on-site parking, a training pack, the RYA Certificate upon successful completion, as well as practice with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
